The Hemingway Marathon
I posted about this on Facebook here awhile back, but now that I'm blogging again, I'm going to give my personal project a home.
Ernest Hemingway. One of the greats. He has written many timeless masterpieces and has inspired many writers.
That brings me to my goal.
I want to finish reading all of Hemingway's Novels by Christmas 2011. This is, I know, a very lofty goal, especially considering graduate school, kids, and a husband all being in the mix. But I think this is an important goal because it will get me one step closer to being more well read, and as everyone knows, the more well read you are the smarter ya is :)
I started my goal yesterday, but I did not begin at the very beginning. The Torrents of Spring was Hemingway's first novel, but not his breakout piece. As such, it has been difficult to find in the stores here in Corpus. The Sun Also Rises was Hemingway's first major novel, and a timeless classic, and this is where I chose to begin my Hemingway journey.
So far I am rather enjoying the book. I'm on chapter 4 and there is no shortage of intriguing characters in this story. There is a random Jewish guy who seemed at first to be the crux of the story but then drifted off into a supporting character, a prostitute named Georgette with a "gorgeous" (think snaggle-toothed) smile, and a tom-boy/sexy girl named Brett that came out of nowhere and has ties to the book's narrative character, Jake. Curious indeed.
I will update you all on the further details of the book and how it unfolds. If you have read it already, please don't spoil it for me. If you haven't read it, I implore you to use caution when reading my blog posts because, well, they're going to spoil.
