Ok, so we are sooo behind on our P52!! We have let life seep in the cracks and drown out our dedication to date nights. But, we finally had one on Monday, and well, we had to, because it was our 2nd Anniversary.
I had this great idea in my head. Treasure hunt. Burying a treasure map that points Kevin to clues and eventually to a romantic picnic on the beach near downtown. Ha! This did not happen.
Instead, I spent the day taking our daughter to art camp, going to the grocery store, picking our daughter up from art camp, and anxiously waiting to hear from my hubby about how his physical fitness test for our local Police Department was going (yes, the test was on our anniversary and he was gone from 8-5!)
So as the day wound down and I realized I hadn't done any burying of treasure let alone any other planning, I decided we would just go to Bistro D'Asia, one of our favorite haunts for delicious food. It was so wonderful, as always.
After dinner, I thought, let's go bowling, but it turned out that after running 1.5 miles and sprinting 300 meters, hubby didn't feel like doing much more movement-intensive activities. So we drove around, talking about what we should do. No movies I liked were out (I'm VERY picky about movies...don't even ask me about Twlight...please) and playing pool sounded boring. So where did we end up? Olive Garden!
We had dessert there, not another meal. I had zapoli and Kevin had black tie chocolate cake. It was a sweet ending to our totally planned then completely unplanned date.
We are going to try to be more consistent, but time will tell if we can be. Between undergrad school for him, grad school for me, 2nd grade for our daughter and Joshua's ever-growing personality, life seeps in quite a bit.
I hope everyone has a very happy Saint Patrick's Day and may you have a lot of luck in your marriage this year!

Project 52, Date #2: The Grinch's Heart Grew Three Sizes That Date
**Just a note, when I'm treated on a date, I'll be the only one blogging. Kevin is not really into the whole blogging thing, so his short reviews on my dates are about as good as it gets :)**
"We're going all the way to Port A?" I said in exaperation.
This weekend, I was a grinch. Joshua, our 9 month old, has been teething like crazy. This has caused him to stay up late, wake up constantly, and overall to stomp on my nerves a bit.
It is safe to say that I have been in a bit of a complaining mood rather than having a grateful spirit. So, when I was at the boiling point of my grinchiness, nearly turning green and gluing antlers to our Dachshund, is when Kevin says "We're going to Port A for our date tonight" O_o
After a bit of grumbling about having to go so far, and on a school night for Kaitlyn, I decided to shut my trap and go.
We pulled up to this awesome looking restaurant called Beaches out on Port A. The best way to describe this place is with my hubby's words; "It's a country themed surf place that serves amazing barbecue"
And was it ever amazing! The food was delicious. Their brisket was the most tender and flavorful I've had, and the service was excellent too.

Then we ordered dessert and I got the biggest cinnamon roll I've ever seen! Seriously, I had already eaten some and look how much was left!
But my favorite part was our conversation. We talked about deep stuff, we talked about silly stuff, and we laughed a lot. And slowly over the evening, my heart started to grow three sizes bigger. Burdens and worries from the past few days lifted off my shoulder and I could feel a sense of peace again.
This is when I realized what husbands and wives are brought together for; when you're at your grinchiest, they are the ones that know how to put a smile back on your face and make you feel like you're on top of the world. Even if they have to take you all the way to Port A to a "country themed surf place with amazing barbeque" to do it :)

Project 52, Date #1: He's A Cosmic Girl
Our first date for Project 52 was, without a doubt, fantastic! I don't think that either of us realized how much fun a simple date night in could be.
When I first thought of a date night in, I was a little hesitant. I mean, Kevin and I are home together most every night, how could labeling it a "date night" make it anything more than just another night at home with the hubby?
How wrong I was!
The very act of labeling our night a "date night" seemed to change the whole tone of the evening. We both knew we had set apart this night for one another. That meant that after the kids were in bed, we didn't go off in our separate directions doing our own thing. Instead we came together as a couple, eager to spend time just being us.
Now even though this was my night to plan, Kevin wanted to contribute a bit. So he went and got us some food from Sonic, truly our guilty pleasure, yum!
I had kept the contents of our date night a secret all day, even though he asked "what are we doing tonight" a million times. I had gone digging around the day before on Simply Modern Mom, the blog of the woman who created Project 52. I found a really cool date night game print out that she had posted. You can find it here and try it for yourself!
It's a game called First Words, which, since I'm studying Counseling (and I'm pretty sure non-counselors know this too :p ) I realized was really Freud's therapy technique of Free Association. Each spouse gets a pile of cards, each with a word on them, and reads them off one by one to the other spouse. That person, in turn, says the first thing that comes to their mind for each word.
Boy did we have some fun with this!
Now since I obviously found Kevin's responses more funny than mine, I kept a sample of some of his immediate responses. They are very curious and slightly off the wall :p
Name: "Rodney" (Where did that come from?!)
Talent: "Juggling, which I can't do"
House: "The Dr. (insert long pause here) and a front door"
Hilarious: "A horse pooping" yeah babe, that's hilarious... :p
It was very fun responding to the words and seeing what crazy stuff we came up with.
This game did not take up much time, so from there we went on to play our favorite card game, Gin Rummy. I won (of course) but the real crown jewel of this part of our evening was the noise I make when Kevin picks up a card from the discard pile. If he picks a card up, I always say the number and suit of the card he picks up and make the sound of a vault lock "swishing" into place, signifying that I've locked into my mind what he picked up so I won't be feeding him anymore cards that relate to that one. Phonetically it sounds something like "wechechecheche".
But last night Kevin made a funny remark about my lock swishing sound; "Is that the sound of your dorkometer going up" :p So of course I said yes, and drew a picture of my dorkometer at full. My little Dork Man has an empty and full gauge connected by head gear. Yep. He's allll nerd!
After this part of the date, we went and played Just Dance, which Kevin has been resistant to trying. But he ended up getting really into it, even dancing better than me during a song called Cosmic Girl, which is why my blog is titled as such. He is indeed, such a Cosmic Girl ha!
After Just Dance, I promised him I'd play some Super Mario Brothers on the wii. This consisted of me dying again and again while he jumped around kicking butt. I am just not that good at Mario! But it was tons of fun and provided lots of laughs.
Kevin's Review:
I must say that this night was much more fun than I expected it to be. Usually when you think of a "night in", its popcorn and your wife picking some lame chick flick... Fortunately for me, it wasn't even close. Overall it was a great night, I wouldn't change a thing. I am, however, hesitant about having to be responsible for planning next week...Angela has set the bar pretty high with this one.
Tune in next week for another rollicking date night synopsis!

Project 52: Two Weeks To Go!
I am so excited! Thanks to my friend Mia, my husband and I are going to be starting Project 52.
Project 52 was started by the wonderful blogger, Simply Modern Mom. The idea behind it is that you and your spouse commit to having a date night, whether in or out of the house, once a week for a whole year. This will give you 52 date nights at the end of the project (wow!). Now these dates don't need to be extravagant, in fact, quite the opposite. These dates are to be cheap, yet creative, and focus on spending quality time together.
The other component to this is that we will be alternating each month on who is in charge of the date nights. We will then post blogs about what we did on each date night and a short review on the date by the person being treated to the special evening.
Kevin works at the hospital, and therefore has really weird schedules, so we'll be setting our date nights a month ahead of time. These will probably mostly be dates at home after the kiddos are asleep; it just makes it easier that way.
We hope you too will join us on Project 52 in a quest to get closer to your spouse as well. If you would like to, fill out this pledge and put it somewhere in your house as a reminder of your commitment to date your spouse, even though you're married!
